If you are from Central IL, you may know Brad Weiss, former WSMI on air talent.  But the rest of America knows him as Brad Carson after a producer asked him for a name change.   You can take the big time radio guy out of the small town, but you cannot take the small town out of Brad.

On this episode of WTL, we talk about his start, his breaks, his path to current roles with ESPN and other stations in the Midwest.   And we also get into the joys of small town sports, the people that formed him, and why reading farm reports and obituaries was the peak of his career.

We also continue the push for the gym at Mount Olive to be named for 50 year Head Wrestling Coach Ron Ryan, and Brad gives a shout out to WSMI legend Terry Todt.

Brad's first real job was "setting pins" at a Turner Hall while growing up in Mt. Olive, Illinois. After college Brad's first radio job consisted of reading obituaries, farm reports, playing country songs, hosting an on-air trade show, and calling basketball games in empty gyms on metal bleachers. Luckily, his career would take him to more exciting places like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and here in Memphis. Brad is the Director of Branding/Sports Programming for WMFS-FM/AM 92.9 FM ESPN & WMC-AM ESPN 790AM, has weekend music shows in Indianapolis on 107.9 The Mix & in Madison, Wisconsin, on 105.5 Triple M for Entercom-Radio, and is a professional voiceover dude. Brad enjoys hanging with his wife and 9 year old son, Jake, playing golf, and has finally discovered the wonder of Netflix.
